Hi! I’m so glad you’re here. I’m still putting this space together; I’ll let you know when I have something more to say. Until then, here are some bits and pieces…

This is me. I took this photo

in the Tomah, Wisconsin “train station” bathroom after I got stranded there, driving from Madison to Minnesota.

This is also me. Probably if you are here it’s because you’ve seen or heard me doing something like this….

People frequently ask me what “kind” of music I make. This has always been an exceedingly challenging question to answer for me. Genres are helpful for categorizing: corralling people towards more music they might enjoy, honing in radio stations to best serve set audiences, informing music platform algorithms, etc.—in my experience, genres are externally helpful, for listeners, but not so much for artists themselves.

So it makes sense that I am at a loss for words when someone asks me what it is I create. The easiest answer these days is to say I “do singer-songwriter stuff” but that really doesn’t get to the core of it, and honestly feels like a bit of a cop out as far as genre descriptors go.

Luckily, you and I are currently existing and interacting on the web-o-sphere, which means I can present you with mediums that are not as accessible in real life conversation. Rather than trying to explain all of the inspirations and motivations; the caves and flavors of my music, I will instead offer a smattering of observations from Listeners Like You:

“Hypnotizing”

“mermaid music”

“deep and consequential”

“it didn’t remind me of anything”

“fucking class”

“swamp siren”

“the Joni Mitchell of our generation”

“exploding tiny moments into nuanced atmospheres”

“I was in a trance. [they] could have played for five hours, [they] could have played for years and I would have withered away without noticing”

“it’s alchemy”
